Vintage Vehicle Restoration in Hampshire
SCM Sporting Classic Motors have amassed over many years enormous experience on a varied range of classic and vintage vehicle restorations. Many of the classic vehicles that are worked on in the SCM workshops were initially introduced to Tom Lubbock-Smith, the SCM principal, as the latest model from various famous marques in the mid-1960s when he started out in the automotive industry.
This experience is invaluable when it comes to understanding the peculiar idiosyncrasies of the various types and models that are regularly attended to by the small skilful team at SCM.
Apart from some specialised bespoke component manufacture, all of the restoration work is undertaken in house. All of this work is undertaken methodically and with great thoroughness thus ensuring that on completion the highest standards of not only skills but also of ethics will have been employed. Each project is provided with a comprehensive 36 month period of warranty at completion.
Ground-up Car Restoration
A vintage or classic car restoration is a considerable commitment for both the owner and the restorers and will involve financial planning as well as a degree of trust. A full ground up car restoration will involve many hundreds of hours to complete and the relative costs can be considerable; it is therefore prudent to determine a financial arrangement or package to suit a particular individual or owner prior to the start of any project.
The depth and level of a given restoration will depend of course on the condition of a vehicle and also on an owner’s own specific requirements.
Generally however, a full ground up restoration will require the complete strip down of a vehicle to a bare shell which will then be shot blasted or chemically dipped so that all traces of rust, paint or coatings are removed. Any corrosion will then be dealt with by cutting away and removing. Replacement panels will then be acquired or fabricated and fitted into place. Rust prohibiting coatings will then be applied prior to complete paint refinishing.
Classic Car Re-fit
Your classic car refit will then take place utilising any new components or parts as required. Depending on requirements the engine will be rebuilt and refitted along with the transmission, suspension and braking system etc..
Ultimately the restoration will be concluded and generally the vehicle will be in better condition than when it was first built. Cared for properly, the vehicle will provide the owner with many years of pleasure and enjoyment.
